Deepavali Celebration in School

The Festival of Lights came to the school in spectacular fashion today. Members of our community dressed in their brightest finery to celebrate this important event. A few highlights of the day can be found here.

International Day - Friday 28th October

International Day is a major event on our school calendar. It is the day we celebrate our school community's diversity and internationalism. It is a day where we focus on our school's aim to "develop an outward-looking, internationally-minded community that promotes respect and compassion", and where we embody the school value of a "belief that varied perspectives enrich our schools and wider communities and that we should embrace, encourage, celebrate and learn from difference and diversity".

Arrangements for the Day

Dress Code: Students should either wear traditional clothes that represent their nation or simply wear the colours of their national flag.

Junior School

Students will spend the morning in internationally-themed lessons where they will explore different cultures. Throughout the afternoon, they will be able visit and indulge in the International Food Festival with different grades visiting at different times.

Senior School

Students will attend a student-led assembly, during tutor time, on the topic of why being internationally minded is so important to us as a school and to the wider world. Lessons will continue as normal throughout the day and Senior School students will be welcome to visit and indulge in the International Food Festival from 3.30pm onwards.

Lunch

Our School caterers are looking forward to providing some international options in the canteen at lunchtime.

Parents’ Guild Food Festival

The Parents’ Guild is pleased to host our first International Food Festival at NLCS. The festival will be held at the school on Friday, 28 October. The festival will open to families at the end of the school day and will continue until 4:30 pm.

The festival is a celebration of the school’s cultural diversity, and will include international food stalls and cultural performances organised by our most talented parents volunteers!

All proceeds will be donated directly to the Red Cross to provide immediate aid for the vulnerable affected by the recent flood in Pakistan. There is no minimum age limit for attendees and invitations to all children are complimentary. All adults will require a ticket and the suggested donation amount is $10 per person.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the School’s main reception or electronically via Paynow ($10 per adult) UEN 201621489RPNW (Please put your eldest child’s last name and class as a reference)

Once the payment is completed, please RSVP using the form here.

You will be able to purchase and/or collect tickets from the School’s main reception from Tuesday 25th October to Thursday 27th October (between 2:30-3:30pm), or on the day of the event. As we expect a large number of attendees, we suggest you purchase your tickets early.

Join us to celebrate the diversity of our community at NLCS!

Halloween - 31st October

We would like to invite all of our students to join in some fun on Monday 31st October by dressing up in a 'Halloween' fancy dress costume, or a costume that follows a 'black and orange' theme if preferred.

Please note that costumes should be suitable for a school environment with young children, and should not include masks or weapons. Junior School students are asked not to wear face paint, due to the mess that this can cause throughout the day.

We look forward to seeing some spooktacular students!

Student Leadership Programme

For the purpose of providing guidance and support to Senior School students in positions of leadership and responsibility, as well as for students who wish to gain a greater understanding of what leadership entails, the school is developing a programme that will focus on the skills and qualities that support successful leadership.

We are eager to include a number of guest speakers for these sessions and to utilise the vast experiences and knowledge of our parent body in order to guide and inspire our students.

We are aiming for sessions to last approximately 15 - 30 minutes, followed by an activity and Q&A.

If you would like to contribute to the programme, could we ask that you please complete the form below and Mr Abbate (Assistant Principal Pastoral) will contact you in the near future.

Thank you!

Trouble Accessing Firefly?

There has been a recent update to Firefly which has affected a small number of users across the school community (and across a number of Firefly schools). Apologies to those who have been affected by this. If you, or your children, continue to struggle accessing the Firefly homepage, please do check how to reset your cache in your browser's support site for further instructions.

Please note: you do not need to clear your browser history, only the cached files.

Sport at NLCS

First NLCS Swimming Championship

On Tuesday, the 11th of October, NLCS had its first annual Swimming Championship!

We got very lucky with the weather and had an incredible afternoon of swimming.

It was the first NLCS Singapore Sports event with parents and spectators being present and supporting athletes! It made it very special and enjoyable for everyone!

70 swimmers across the whole school were competing in the 50s and 100 metres events. The programme's highlight was the final relay, where we had twelve teams made out of one Senior School swimmer and three Junior School swimmers competing together!

All swimmers did very well, showing their best times and best performances. For most Junior School swimmers, it was their very first competition ever!

Results and winners will be announced shortly.

Big thank you to the parents who volunteered and helped with the timing. Thank you to the entire Physical Education department who helped organise the event.
