Active parental involvement is integral to fostering a supportive and inclusive school community. Here are various ways to participate and contribute to our vibrant school community, along with information on the volunteer engagement process.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
Class Representatives play a vital role in fostering effective communication among parents and between parents and the school community. They volunteer to represent a specific class in the Junior School or tutor group in the Senior School, typically with one representative per group. However, in certain instances, the role may be shared by two parents.
In addition to nurturing a sense of class unity and upholding communication channels, Class Representatives actively engage in welcoming new families to the school. Their role involves:
- Attending Class Rep meetings, actively participating by sharing ideas and suggestions and communicating the information they receive from the school to their respective classes.
- Proactively reaching out to families and encouraging attendance at Welcome Breakfasts, House Breakfasts and other community events.
- Keeping abreast of the school events calendar and promoting participation.
- With support from the School Events Team, taking a leading role in organising events that naturally involve parent participation. These events include Teacherʼs Day (August 30th), Childrenʼs Day (October 4th), the Grade 5 Transition Event, and a termly social event (disco, movie night, barbeque, games).
- Volunteering for the organising committees of cultural and community events, collaborating closely with the School Events Team.
- The coordination of Class Representatives is managed by the school, with oversight from the Vice Principal (Pastoral) in the Senior School and the Vice Principal (Head of Junior School) in the Junior School.
- It is important to note that the systems in each school may vary to accommodate the different ages and needs of students and their parents or guardians. All Class Representatives will be invited to meet as a group at least once per term. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss any broader issues that have arisen, but they should not deter the regular communications that are expected to be ongoing with the Class Teachers/Tutors.
CRITERIA AND PROCESS:
- Each academic year commences with an invitation to all parents to complete a form expressing their interest in serving as a class representative. If more than one parent volunteers for a class, the academic team will reach out to those parents to discuss.
- Additionally, the school may proactively contact parents to assess interest or identify prospective candidates.
- Class Representatives are responsible for crafting proposals for the social events they lead and organise, with the assistance and support of the School Events Team.
NLCSConnect
NLCSConnect, our community event series, is designed to cultivate strong parent relationships at NLCS (Singapore).
Throughout the year, NLCSConnect presents a diverse array of offerings, including insightful talks by experts and interactive workshops aimed at fostering meaningful connections and skill development. It serves as a platform to forge new friendships, broaden horizons, and enrich your journey through parenthood.
Parents are encouraged to actively contribute by delivering talks and facilitating workshops
CRITERIA AND PROCESS:
- Parents can submit ideas for talks and workshops year-round.
- Selection may be based on expertise, availability, and alignment with the objectives of NLCSConnect events.
PARENT AMBASSADORS
Our committed Parent Ambassadors play a pivotal role in upholding the school's values, fostering inclusivity, and helping maintain a caring and welcoming community.
At the forefront of this initiative, Parent Ambassadors lead and facilitate an activity/interest club open to all parents. Through their leadership and active involvement, Parent Ambassadors inspire a culture of unity, support, and engagement, embodying the essence of our school's values. Their contributions enrich the school's event calendar with a diverse range of offerings catering to our community's varied interests.
Parent Ambassadors also serve as integral volunteers, supporting the school's Admissions Department and actively engaging with prospective families considering joining NLCS (Singapore). They participate in school tours and admissions events and offer invaluable advice and guidance based on their own experiences.
Additionally, Parent Ambassadors play a key role in welcoming new families to the school and involving them in community events.
CRITERIA AND PROCESS:
- At the beginning of the school year, all parents are invited to indicate their interest in joining The Parent Ambassador Programme and to submit a plan outlining their proposed activity or interest club.
- Parent Ambassadors are chosen carefully based on their dedication to the school's principles, demonstrated leadership, and eagerness to participate actively in the school community.
- Selected ambassadors will assume responsibility for leading and overseeing their Activity/Interest Clubs and will receive marketing and coordination support from the school.
- Parent Ambassadors may be featured in the schoolʼs advertising.
- The programme is reintroduced at the start of each academic year. The Parent Ambassador Programme for the academic year 2024/25 serves as a pilot.
If you have any questions about the above opportunities or would like to register your interest, please reach out to Seema Malkani, Head of Communications & Parent Relations, at smalkani@nlcsingapore.sg

FRIENDS OF THE ARTS
Through close collaboration with teachers, parent volunteers passionate about the arts play a crucial role in enhancing the arts education curriculum and fostering a greater appreciation for creativity within the school community.
