Outline of Event 

Teams must design a product using discarded materials to fish items out of a ‘storm drain’. The idea is to make the most efficient product that can be used to retrieve a number of different items. 

Houses will be split into middle & upper school teams with each team competing against the other house teams.

Rules & Timings 

3.45pm Task introduction

3.50pm Task begins - Students work collaboratively to build their products. They are allowed 30 seconds of testing time as part of this section

4.20pm Competition starts. 2 minutes per house with a 1 minute reset break between. Teams ranked in order of the number of items retrieved. In the event of a tie, teams will compete in a tie break, the shortest time to retrieve 5 items wins.

Scoring 

Each house will have their attempt timed, with the average of both house entries taken as their final time. 

Points awarded based on time ranking. Time penalties will apply in categories to be shared on the day.

Number of items retrieved within 2 minutes. If a tie, first to five items.

Results will be announced in assembly the following week.
